The problem was not only snow, but very strong (154 km/h) and cold wind.

Practically, the release trains lasted three or four days. Locomotives sent to help, remained blocked. Because of the stormy wind every cleaning railroad was in vain.

hier am Niederrhein ist Schnee in die Liste der bedrohten Wetterkapriolen aufgenommen worden.

on the fotos , just from looking ,
the overhead line seemed to be not touched by the storm .
But I may be in error .
There is a deformation in one side of the red electric loco ?
Snow pressed so hard against the iron wall ?
And also derailed loco ?

Overhead lines are not damaged.
Deformation of red locomotive is an optical illusion because of the angle of shooting.
Only one locomotive was derailed when trying to pull out of the snow (locomotive with Gartner wagons).
And my two (HDR) photos:

Locomotive 644 (Macosa) broke through the snow.

Weird thing is, that left to the railroad there is no snow at all.
